Collection Exhibition Phase I: Art and Materials - Works seen from two perspectives
Art and materials are inseparably linked. Materials refer to the materials used in artistic works, and even works in the same genre can produce a variety of expressions depending on the materials. For example, in the field of painting, there are works that use a variety of materials, such as oil paintings, which are painted by dissolving pigments in oil, watercolor paintings, which are painted by dissolving pigments in water, and Japanese paintings, which use traditional materials such as mineral pigments and washi paper.
On the other hand, the word "material" also has the meaning of subject matter. If the former material is expressed as "material as a physical means of expression," the latter can be rephrased as "material as the subject of expression."
This exhibition will focus on two "materials" of artworks: materials and subject matter, and will feature paintings, prints, and craft works. Please also enjoy the works that were newly acquired in fiscal year 2024 .
