This museum was opened in April 1985 as the Yasuura History and Folklore Museum (Minami Kunzo Memorial Museum) after renovating the birthplace and studio of Minami Kunzo, a painter who left an indelible mark on the history of modern Japanese Western-style painting, and adding a special exhibition room. Not only Minami Kunzo's works are on display, but also the art materials he used and his favorite items, allowing visitors to get a deeper understanding of his personality. The main house is estimated to have been built in the late Edo period, making it a valuable building that gives insight into the architectural style of the time. Old farm tools and folk implements are also on display, giving visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle of the time.
