The three mikoshi (portable shrines) competing to see how fast they can spin around the flag is a sight to behold.
This is the annual festival of Kubo Yasaka Shrine, one of the three major summer festivals in Onomichi. Three portable shrines carrying the deity are paraded through the city and then gathered on the road in front of the Onomichi Ferry Pier, where the Santai Mawashi (three-portable shrine roundabout) is held, where participants compete for time by vigorously spinning a single flag bearing the name of Yasaka Shrine.
