72nd Japanese Traditional Crafts Exhibition [Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum]

This exhibition brings together the outstanding skills and beauty of contemporary Japanese artists, from Living National Treasures to up-and-coming young artists.
Approximately 280 pieces of "tradition" that live on in the modern age are gathered here!

The Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition was founded in 1954 with the aim of developing and passing on world-class craft techniques born from the Japanese culture.
Based on traditional techniques, our goal is to create new techniques and new expressions that suit modern life.
The Hiroshima exhibition will feature approximately 280 works, including nine selected works by artists living in Hiroshima, from the categories of ceramics, dyeing and weaving, lacquerware, metalwork, wood and bamboo work, dolls, and various crafts.
Enjoy the latest works by Japan's leading craftspeople, from up-and-coming young artists to Living National Treasures (holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties). In addition, to coincide with a tour of the posthumous works of Akira Yamamoto (holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property "Metal Carving" / Yamaguchi Prefecture), who passed away in 2024, we will be exhibiting a special work by Yamamoto from our museum collection.
