Special Collection Exhibition “Waterside Scenery” [Hiroshima Museum of Art]
Waterside landscapes drawn by painters from the Hiroshima Museum of Art's collection will be collected and exhibited in one place.
A riverside filled with light, a raging ocean, a tranquil lakeside... scenic waterside landscapes have fascinated people since ancient times. Impressionist painters such as Monet and Renoir painted many waterside scenes full of light. Also, in Japan, where people tend to feel close to nature compared to the West, many painters who have learned Western techniques since the Meiji period have continued to search for their own expressions.
This time, waterside landscapes drawn by painters from the Hiroshima Museum of Art's collection will be collected and exhibited in one place. Please enjoy the various expressions of the waterside, which are captured in different ways depending on the artist.
Works: oil paintings (Japanese and Western paintings), about 90 Japanese paintings
Georges Despaña “Fishing in Triel” 1901
Fujishima Takeji “Sunrise” circa 1931
Yamashita Shintaro “Naoshima seen from Megijima” circa 1934
