Wakagoshiya, a prefectural historic site, was a prostitute who traveled from Kaminoseki in Suo to Mitarai to earn money, and in 1724 received permission from the Hiroshima Domain to operate a teahouse and set up shop there. The ruins of Wakagoshiya are thought to have been built during this period, and were the largest townhouse in Mitarai. The ceiling of the main building's living room is decorated with extravagance, including the use of Yakusugi cedar. In 1884, the building was converted into Ryuhoji Temple, and the second floor was removed at that time, but part of it has been reused for the rafters of the Buddhist altar area, and remains to this day.
