A boat inn designated by the Ozu and Uwajima domains in the Edo period

A boat inn was responsible for all the care given to the domain's official ships when they came into port, and also acted as a merchant servicing the government, such as lending out loans. Wakamotoya, located in the center of these three tenement houses, was designated a boat inn for the Ozu domain in 1867, and also served as a boat inn for the Uwajima domain.
