This stone breakwater, built in the Edo period, is located beyond Sumiyoshi Shrine along with a tall lantern. It was built in 1829 (Bunsei 12), the year before Sumiyoshi Shrine was completed, by the Hiroshima Domain as a large breakwater that was unparalleled in China. A crane and a turtle are carved into the stone at the base of the breakwater, representing dreams of eternal prosperity, along with Sumiyoshi Shrine, the god of commerce for the townspeople.
