Since ancient times, many Sengoku warlords have visited to pray for victory as a deity that wards off disasters.

It is said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Korei (115 BC), and within the grounds is a sacred holt tree that is said to be over 1,200 years old. Since ancient times, it has been believed to ward off misfortune, and many warlords from the Sengoku period have visited the shrine to pray for victory in battles and to offer weapons and equipment. Some of these are on display in the treasure museum adjacent to the shrine. In addition, the "Momote Shinji" (Large Long Bow Festival, the last Saturday of January) has been held here since the Heian period.
