Kurahashi Cultural History Museum

Kurahashi History and Folklore Museum opened in 1983 with the aim of collecting, preserving and displaying materials on the history of Kurahashi Island, which was formerly known as "Nagato Island" and was featured in Man'yoshu poems, and which was based on shipbuilding and maritime trade. Along with archaeological materials such as fossils of Naumann's elephant and other creatures, and earthenware from ancient times to the early modern period, the museum also exhibits a section on Nagato Island and the Man'yoshu, materials related to the island's industries such as agriculture and stonework, and materials related to life, folk art and literature.
