The first and second Takechi Maru, located off the coast of Mitsuguchi, were built in Takasago, Hyogo Prefecture, as transport ships towards the end of the Pacific War. Like an ordinary copper ship, the Takechi Maru was equipped with an engine and used to transport military supplies. After the war, Yasuura Fishing Port had no breakwaters, and fishing boats suffered damage every time a typhoon hit. As a result, those involved with the fishing port at the time petitioned the prefecture, and a breakwater was installed as a breakwater for Yasuura Fishing Port. Even now, the two concrete ships still play the role of a breakwater.
