Located in the northwest of Kure City, this reservoir covers an area of 300,000 square kilometers and was constructed by the former Imperial Japanese Navy in 1918. Cherry trees and pine trees grow thick along the lake shore, and in 1996, part of the lake was developed as "Ray Park Honjo," where cherry trees sent from Nawa Town in Tottori Prefecture, a sister city and famous cherry blossom spot, were planted. On May 13, 1999, the dam and waterworks facility, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, will be opened to the public in time for the cherry blossoms to bloom.
