1,000 cherry trees planted by former Marines

Mt. Shindo was used as a training ground for students of the former Naval Academy, and also as a place of relaxation for students, as recorded by the school: "On November 15, 1936, 16, 16,000m2 of land at the top of Mt. Shindo was purchased for our Yokokan campus, and 1,000 cherry trees, camphor trees, and 69 chestnut trees were planted." However, this space of relaxation was lost due to devastation and forest fires during and after the war, and former naval officers, filled with nostalgia for the mountain's former beauty, worked with the former Nomi Town to plant 1,000 cherry trees of various species from around the country along the mountain trail. In spring, many people enjoy the rows of cherry trees at Mt. Shindo's 1,000 Cherry Blossoms.
