This is an Edo period townhouse located along the old Saigoku Kaido road in Saijo Yokkaichi. The inscription on the onigawara tile reveals that it was built in 1795 (Kansei 7). The house operated a sake brewing business during the Edo period, and flourished as an inn at the end of the Edo period and a pharmacy in the Meiji period. Like the former Kihara family residence in Takaya-cho Shiraichi, it retains the townhouse style from the old days, and was designated an Important Tangible Cultural Property of the city in 1993 before being moved to its current location.
