All that remains of Zenkonji Temple today is the bell tower and the storage facility. The storage facility is home to over 20 Buddhist statues, one of only three in the prefecture. Most of the statues were made in the Heian period, and are made from a single piece of wood. They are designated as Important Cultural Properties of the prefecture and city. The large number of Buddhist statues makes it easy to imagine that there used to be a large temple here, backed by the region's great influence. However, there is nothing to record its past prosperity, and it has become a phantom temple, with the thousand-year-old Buddhist statues telling us its history.
