national natural monument

Speaking of oceans, have you ever seen an ocean of rocks? This is Iwami-umi, an ocean of rocks located in the mountains at an altitude of about 480m to 530m. Huge rocks and oddly shaped stones with diameters of 1m to 7m spread across an area of about 22 hectares (about 10 times the size of the old Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium) along a gently sloping valley. If you put your ear to the rocks, you can hear the sound of running water, even though there is no water. This is the sound of water flowing beneath the Iwami-umi, but the amount of water, depth, source, and destination are all unknown. It is truly a mysterious riverbed.
