Gateway to Kaita Town

A one-minute walk from the south exit of JR Kaitaichi Station. This bridge is for pedestrians and bicycles only and spans the Seno River. Kaita was once called "Tsujiura" (a Japanese word for "drum lagoon"), so the bridge's X-shaped plan is based on the motif of a drum. In consideration of the simultaneous use of traffic, the bridge's railings were designed as a bicycle lane and the center as a pedestrian lane. The name "Himawari Ohashi" was chosen through a public contest.
