A fantastic view of a sea of mist! An observation deck with a panoramic view of the city at night
Takataniyama Observatory in Miyoshi City is famous for its mystical "sea of fog" that appears from autumn to early spring. Looking down from the observation deck, located approximately 490 meters above sea level, you'll be treated to a spectacular view unique to this region: mountain peaks rising above the thick mist that fills the basin. In the crisp air, the mist transforms from crimson to gold as the sun rises, changing color with every passing moment. Enjoying the transition as the mist gradually clears and the cityscape appears is one of the highlights of visiting here.
This spectacular view emerges early in the mornings from September to March, when the weather is clear, there's little wind, and the temperature difference between day and night is large. The summit is easily accessible by car, allowing you to easily enjoy the world above the clouds. However, due to poor visibility in the early mornings on foggy days, please drive with caution. It can get quite chilly at the summit, so be sure to pack plenty of cold weather gear. This spot is also popular as a night view spot with a panoramic view of the city. At night, the lights of Miyoshi spread out below you, offering a different view to the mystical atmosphere of the early morning. This is a spot where you can experience with all five senses the natural beauty of Miyoshi, which changes with the seasons and time of day.
