Kurata Hyakuzo (1891-1943) was born as the eldest son of Kurata Gosaku, a kimono merchant in Honmachi, Shobara City. He was devoted to philosophy and made a name for himself as a seeker of the truth and a playwright, writing works such as "The Beginning of Love and Awareness," "The Monk and His Disciple," "Shunkan," and "Prince Fuse's Entry into the Mountains." The Kurata Hyakuzo Literature Museum displays Hyakuzo's writings, manuscripts, photographs, letters, belongings, and many other valuable materials. The Shobara Rural Culture Center, which contains the Kurata Hyakuzo Literature Museum, is a complex consisting of a library that supports lifelong learning, a history and folklore museum that compiles history and folklore, and a multipurpose hall that can be used as an exhibition gallery, meeting room, etc.
