This 30m tall horse chestnut tree stands beside the Ooba River, upstream of the Eno River, a tributary of the Saijo River, and near the source of the Kumano River. Horse chestnut trees are a species similar to the horse chestnut trees that line the streets of Paris, and are endemic to Japan, found from Hokkaido to Kyushu. The Kumano Horse Chestnut is one of Japan's largest trees, with a hollow at the base, and is designated as a national natural monument. To protect the tree, please do not enter the area near the base.
