This is the former castle site of the Itsukushima Shrine priest family, who ruled over Itsukushima Shrine and the sacred land of the Saiki district for 320 years since the Kamakura period. It is also known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, and now, due to the construction of Katsura Park in the Showa period, only a small part of what appears to be the remains of the castle grounds remain. During the Battle of Itsukushima (1555), in which Mori Motonari fought against Sue Harukata, this was the headquarters of the Mori forces, and the inspection of the head of Sue Harukata, who was defeated in the battle, was carried out here.
