This temple was founded by the monk Donen during his travels around the country in 1585. The ceiling of the main hall is a magnificent coffered ceiling, with 144 paintings of flowers, islands, animals and people donated by believers at the end of the Edo period. In the past, the temple was in front of the Boji River, and the temple faces the Saigoku Kaido road on the west bank. There is a well on the grounds where travelers used to quench their thirst, known as the "Well of Longevity."
