This temple was founded by the monk Gyoei in 1573. As you walk up the long approach to the temple, you will come across the magnificently carved temple gate, which is also mentioned in a children's song with the lyrics "Eemon wa Fukuzenji," with an intricate crane on the door and a powerful dragon dancing overhead. Just inside the gate, spreading its branches across the temple grounds, you will find the Eagle Pine, one of Onomichi's three most famous pines and a natural monument of the city.
