A deep cylindrical hole dug into the rock surface of a riverbed is called a pothole. A pothole is formed by a whirlpool that occurs in a depression in the riverbed. In Oyamada, Yamato district, there is a magnificent pothole in the Sendogawa River waterfall basin that a person can fit into, and it is called Sarukobuchi by the locals. It is 60cm in diameter and 182cm deep.
