It was opened in February 1986 as one of Japan's leading chamber music halls, and is not only a base for local cultural activities, but also hosts concerts by top artists from Japan and abroad. It was designed with a thorough focus on acoustics to match the number of seats. It also has a stage curtain based on the "Setoda Mandala" by painter Ikuo Hirayama. Bel canto means a beautiful, resonant voice in Italian.
