Tortoise neck Jizo

Under Takane Bridge, there is a Jizo statue that is being washed away by the waves, and when the tide goes out, a rock in the shape of a turtle can be seen nearby. Long ago, when the whole village was in trouble with a giant turtle that was attacking boats, a brave young monk killed the turtle by decapitating it. Since then, there have been many shipwrecks, so it is said that this Jizo statue was built to pray for the spirit of the giant turtle and to prevent further shipwrecks.
