Bingo scenic spot with seven spring ponds is ideal for hiking

There are seven spring ponds near the summit of Mt. Kamegatake (539.4m above sea level) towering to the north of the city. The ponds are called Hiraiwa-ike, Shimoniiike, Kamishin-ike, Hasu-ike, Oike, Tsutsumi-ike, and Kuchi-no-ike, and are famous spots in Bingo. They were built for irrigation purposes during the Edo period over several decades, and the last of them, Hiraiwa-ike, was completed in 1712. In spring, there are an abundance of azaleas, wisteria flowers, horsetails, and bracken, and it is an ideal place for hiking and fishing.
