The precincts with a spacious and beautiful garden are quiet itself
About 10 minutes by bus north from Kannabe Station, you will see a deep black forest at the foot of the mountain. There is a stone pillar with the characters "Kokubunji" carved into the natural stone, and after passing through an approach lined on both sides with pine trees over 300 years old, you will come across a large old mountain gate. The grounds are a spacious and beautiful garden, and are the epitome of tranquility. Kokubunji was an official temple built in each province alongside the provincial capitals during the Tenpyo period, and the current building was rebuilt in the Edo period by Lord Mizuno Katsutane, lord of Fukuyama Castle.
