Collection of living utensils collected in the 30's of the Showa era
In 1957, 72 houses of Geihoku-cho Tarutoko were sunk to the bottom of the lake due to the construction of a power generation dam of Chugoku Electric Power Company.
At that time, a comprehensive academic survey by the Hiroshima Prefectural Board of Education revealed that the old form of living culture remained in this Tarutoko area.
Concerned about the loss of this valuable cultural property, the town encouraged academic experts and local volunteers to collect materials and protected 479 materials.
In January 1959, 247 living tools, 185 production tools, and 47 other tools were designated as national important tangible folk materials under the name of "Tarutoko / Yawatayama Village Living Tools" on May 6, 1959 as a cultural property of Hiroshima Prefecture. The dots are on display.
