Although there are no buildings, there are still many ruins left, and it is designated as a national historic site as ``Yoshikawa clan residence ruins''.

This was the base of the Kikkawa clan, who were feared as "Demon Kikkawa" for their fierce fighting style during the Onin War. It is said that Kikkawa Tsuneharu, who had his base in Iwami Province (western Shimane Prefecture), moved it to Shinjo and made it his main castle in the first half of the 15th century, and it served as the base of the Kikkawa clan for over a century until Okitsune moved to Hinoyama Castle in 1545. It is centered on the summit of Ogurayama, which is 460m above sea level and 80m above sea level, and makes use of ridges that extend on three sides. The central "Honmaru" group of enclosures, the "Ninomaru" group of enclosures, and the "Sannomaru" group of enclosures are separated by moats, and each has an independent appearance. It is currently open to the public as a historical park.
