Mitsu in Akitsu-cho, Higashihiroshima City is known as the birthplace of Miura Senzaburo, who would later develop Hiroshima as a sake-producing region. Miura developed a brewing method suited to Hiroshima's soft water, greatly improving the quality of Hiroshima sake. The master brewers who inherited his techniques developed Hiroshima as a sake-producing region and expanded their activities as Hiroshima master brewers across the country. For this reason, Mitsu is also known as the hometown of Hiroshima master brewers. Even today, relics and places related to Miura Senzaburo remain around Mitsu. Two breweries continue to operate today, carrying on the tradition of sake brewing.
