Ruins of the castle of Mr. Mukunashi, who contributed to the expansion of the power of the Kobayakawa family

This is the remains of a Doi-style mountain castle built in the Kamakura period. The castle was built in Mukōnashi in 1621 by Hidehira, the great-grandson of Doi Sanehira, and continued to be ruled by the 12th Mukōnashi clan leader, Kageyoshi, for over 350 years until it was transferred to Bungo and Choshu following the transfer of the Mori clan in 1602. There is an abandoned temple site 200m southeast of the Mukōnashi castle ruins.
