Natural Monuments of Mihara City

The tree is 6m in circumference and 20m tall. It is located next to the main hall on the grounds of Joutokuji Temple in Kamikitakata, Hongo-cho. Kenponashi trees are distributed from Hokkaido to Kyushu, the Korean peninsula, and parts of China. When the fruit ripens, the thickened fruit stalk is eaten. It is said to have spread as a herbal medicine during the Edo period. Unfortunately, the tree is currently in decline.
