Made by Tomoshige Tanji, a caster who was active nationwide, mainly in the Minamikawachi region.
Founded by Fukuma Joseiki in 1496, this large temple belongs to the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect, and its main hall and other buildings are imposing structures (City Important Cultural Property). The temple bell (Prefecture Important Cultural Property), cast in 1383 during the Nanboku-cho period, is a valuable resource, as it bears an inscription commemorating the day that Wachi Masaharu, the lord of Kisa and Minami-Tenjo, was murdered by Motonari on Miyajima after being suspected of poisoning Mori Takamoto. The Keicho Garden, built in the style of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, is well worth a visit.
