Kusado Sengencho Ruins, a town of medieval people sleeping on the bottom of the Ashida River
The ruins of Kusado Sengencho, a medieval town of the common people that lay dormant in the bottom of the Ashida River, have been brought back to life through years of excavation. This museum allows you to learn about the history and culture of the Setouchi region while having fun walking through the streets of the time and seeing how people lived. In addition, one of the permanent exhibition rooms has been designated as an exhibition room for early modern culture, where early modern history and culture are introduced based on materials related to Suga Chazan, an important cultural property of Hiroshima. Hiroshima Prefecture is the birthplace of Suga Chazan, a Confucian scholar and educator in the Edo period who was also famous as a Chinese poet. Through the materials left behind by Chazan, the museum exhibits allow visitors to feel close to Chazan and his interactions with writers from all over the country, as well as the scholarship, culture, and art of the early modern period, and to learn about them in an easy-to-understand way. The exhibits are scheduled to be changed approximately every two months.
