During the Kohei era, a branch of the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Sagami was enshrined on Mt. Yonemi. In 1065, it was returned to its current location on Mt. Wabe, and in 1118, it was rebuilt as the main shrine of Yatsugasho, and is home to the treasure, the Tortoise Shell Stone. It was founded in 1058, the second year of the Engi era.
