A dam lake with seven islands floating on the surface of the lake, with Mt. Wolong in the background

This dam was built in the Tarutoko area by Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. in October 1957 for power generation. Its official name is "Tarutoko Dam." Originally, there were 72 houses and 60 hectares of cultivated land at the bottom of the lake, but it was completed as an artificial lake due to the sad relocation of the residents. Locals affectionately call it "Sei Lake," and the name comes from the "Seizan" mountain on the lakeside. Seven islands of various sizes float quietly on the clear lake surface with a circumference of 27 kilometers. In early autumn, the surrounding fields and mountains turn red, and the beauty of the reflected leaves on the lake surface with Mount Garyu as a backdrop is reminiscent of a famous landscape scroll of the Sumi-ko Dai-Hall, and it is a spot that many photographers visit. Nearby are the Sei Lake Campground, Mitsutaki Falls, and the Geihoku Folk Museum, where you can look back on the life of the Tarutoko area.
