A beautiful bell tower with an unusual design that combines Japanese and Zen styles

This building houses a temple bell inside. According to ink inscriptions on the back of the kentozuka, it was built in 1433, making it the oldest building at Fudoin Temple. Also, on the inside of the irimoya wall panel, "1588..." is written, which suggests that repairs were carried out at that time, and most of the roof framework was replaced. This was likely heavily involved with Ekei, who was devoting his efforts to rebuilding the temple at the time. Looking at the details of the construction, it uses Japanese-style mitesaki joints, while also incorporating Zen Buddhist techniques in the corner beams, showing a rare combination of Japanese and Zen styles. Overall, it is a beautiful building with well-balanced components. Date of designation: July 19, 1952 (Showa 27) Summary: Three bays across, two bays deep, white-painted, hip-and-gabled roof, shingled roof
