An ancient shrine built before 826 AD at the latest, located halfway up Mt. Iwataki with a magnificent view
Apparently founded as early as 826 (Tencho 3), this is a shrine with a long history. From the ridge of Mt. Iwatakiyama, the Seto Inland Sea spreads out below, creating a spectacular view that attracts many climbers, and Iwataki Shrine is located halfway up the mountain. In spring, the cherry blossoms bloom in abundance, making it a popular cherry blossom viewing spot. Below is the town of Kifune, where Sugawara no Michizane docked, and it is said that Tenmangu Shrine was enshrined there. Incidentally, 200m to the east is the Shingu Kofun burial mound, which dates from the late Yayoi period.
