Machiya Street

Machiya Street, known as Honmachi-suji at the time, was the main street in Miyajima during its most glorious period. Located one block up the mountain from Omotesando Shopping Arcade (Kiyomori-dori), this street is lined with retro-modern inns, shops, and galleries that combine traditional townhouse architecture with a contemporary feel. As you walk from Miyajima Pier to the end of this street, you will begin to see the five-story pagoda, which continues on to Itsukushima Shrine.
