A fantastic summer tradition where cormorant fishermen skillfully manipulate cormorants under a bonfire

A seasonal summer event, "Cormorant Fishing on the Kintai Bridge" takes place on the clear Nishiki River with the Kintai Bridge, one of Japan's three most famous bridges, in the background (this event is only held for a limited time). It is said to have originated long ago, around 380 years ago. It was temporarily suspended during its long history, but was revived in 1952 and continues to this day. Under the summer night sky, you can enjoy the fantastical and mystical sight of the beautifully lit Kintai Bridge, the bonfires of the cormorant boats approaching, and the cormorant fishermen in traditional attire skillfully handling the cormorants with their ropes.
