Headquarters of Yamatsumi Shrine Mishima Shrine nationwide
Known as the "Great Japanese Guardian Shrine," this shrine has over 10,000 branch shrines across the country. In the center of the grounds sits a sacred 2,600-year-old large camphor tree, and the group of camphor trees within the shrine are the oldest group of camphor trees in Japan, designated as a national natural monument. The shrine's name stone (Great Japanese Guardian Oyamazumi Shrine) was inscribed by the first Prime Minister, Ito Hirobumi, in commemoration of his visit. In the past, the shrine attracted the faith of naval warlords, and the sacred crest of Oyamazumi Shrine, "sumikiri orishiki ni tsumugi san moji," is used as the family crest by the Kono and Kurushima Murakami families.
