During the Koan era, the Hiraga clan was sent from Hiraka County in Dewa Province as land stewards, and expanded its influence, becoming one of the leading local feudal lords in Aki Province. During the Sengoku period, they mainly belonged to the Ouchi clan and were in an antagonistic relationship with Mori Motonari, but later belonged to the Mori clan. The Hiraga clan's graveyard is located at the site of Myodo-ji Temple, and contains many pagodas and five-ringed towers. Other remains of the Hiraga clan include the remains of Misonou Castle, Hakusan Castle, and Tozaki Castle, which have been designated as prefectural historic sites.
