A fault valley where you can enjoy nature close to the center of Hiroshima city

Minamihara Gorge, located in Asakita Ward, Hiroshima City, is a fault valley formed by erosion by the Minamihara River, whose source is Mount Dotoko and Mount Kabekanmuri. The area surrounding the source is a plateau, and downstream of the gorge are Kagatsu Falls, Ishifune Falls, and Otaki Falls, as well as interesting rock formations such as Shishiiwa and Ryuzuiwa. There are also many broadleaf trees that change color in autumn, making this a small but attractive valley. Minamihara Gorge Prefectural Natural Park was designated in 1967 for the purpose of preserving the gorge, but as it is close to the center of Hiroshima City, it is popular with locals as a spot where they can easily enjoy nature.
