An atmosphere full of Japanese and Western eclectic atmosphere
This four-story wooden building, designated as an Important Cultural Property by the government, was built in 1879 by Ogata Kenkuro, who ran a steamship inn, as a store and reception space. The building is full of elaborate details, such as the ascending dragons on the columns at the four exterior corners, the peonies on the eaves and hanging wall on the second floor, the trowel painting of a phoenix on the fourth floor ceiling, the stained glass and the spiral staircase, and you can really feel the distinctive features of pseudo-Western architecture.
