A shrine floating in the sea connected by a drum bridge
This shrine floating on the sea has long been known in the region as Myojin-sama or Ryugu-sama, and is regarded as the god who protects sailors and ensures safety at sea. The drum bridge leading to the shrine has beautiful stone balustrades, and is said to have once spanned the residence of Lord Ono Mori. The nearby port of Hirao and its water area are also featured in Kunikida Doppo's "Youth's Sorrow." Trade with Korea, China and other countries seems to have been active since ancient times, and the name of the country of Baekje at that time remains as a place name, as shown here.
