A phantom railroad legacy that was left unfinished due to reasons such as war, despite the fact that construction was started twice in the Showa era.
Construction of the Imabuku Line began in 1933, from Shimofu Station on the former Japanese National Railways Sanin Line to Iwami Imabuku Station, as the Shimane Prefecture side of the Kohin Railway linking Hiroshima and Hamada. However, in 1940, when construction was almost complete, it was halted due to the war. After the war, construction was resumed as a new Imabuku Line starting from Hamada Station, separate from the old Imabuku Line, but in 1980, construction was halted again due to the chronic deficit of Japanese National Railways. After that, no operator was found to take over the construction, and the line ended up as an incomplete line, and it came to be called the "phantom Kohin Railway."
