Reflecting on the 248-year history of the Hamada feudal government, one of Japan's 100 most famous castles
Built by Furuta Shigeharu in 1620, the castle was the center of Hamada domain government for about 250 years, but was burned down and evacuated during a battle with the Choshu army in 1866. Today, only the stone walls remain, and the castle is a popular cherry blossom viewing spot and a place of relaxation for local citizens.
