Many of the tiles in the main hall remain from the time of the atomic bombing. At that time, it was used as an evacuation center for many people.

On August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), Kannonji Temple was hit by the atomic bomb 3.26 kilometers from the hypocenter. The blast lifted the ceiling, blew away roof tiles, and caused the walls to collapse. The temple grounds became a shelter for victims, and many people took refuge there. Repairs were gradually made, but nearly half of the tiles on the main hall are still in use today. In front of the main hall, a lantern, the top of which has shifted due to the blast, is preserved, conveying the power of the blast to this day.
