The Sanmon gate retains its original appearance at the time of the atomic bombing. Parts of the former main hall and bell tower are still preserved at the temple.

On August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), Kaihoji Temple in Eba-minami, Naka-ku, Hiroshima was hit by the atomic bomb, 3.47 (mountain gate) and 3.49 (bell tower) kilometers from the hypocenter. The mountain gate was built around the middle of the Taisho period, and the bell tower around 1930 (Showa 5). The main hall was badly damaged and has already been rebuilt. However, some of the pillars, beams, and roof tiles from the time of the bombing are still preserved at the temple.
